Lease-option
You rent the home and pay for the right, but not the obligation, to buy it later at a set price.
Typically
- An upfront option fee, usually nonrefundable
- Part of each rent payment may be credited toward the purchase, if the contract says so
- You can walk away at the end, usually losing the fee and any credits
Watch for: contract terms that cancel your option after one late payment.
